Biography of Pastor Bob
Among the favorite lunch choices in Hawaii is one called “mixed plate.” Bob L. Isip, born and raised in Honolulu, comes to the First UMC of Santa Maria as a mixed plate. After graduating from McKinley High School, he attended a small
liberal arts United Methodist college in LeMars, Iowa called Westmar College. He then headed west to the School of Theology at Claremont and received his Master’s of Divinity in 1988.
Bob’s appointments to local churches are all in Southern California. For three years he served at Ventura First UMC as an associate pastor; and then served as Pastor-in-charge at Chapel of the Hills in Descanso, Chapel of the Valley in El Cajon, and Normal Heights UMC. Bishop Mary Ann Swenson enlisted his services as the Conference Secretary for three years so he was moved to San Gabriel First UMC, until his most recent appointment at Torrance First UMC where he finishes 8 years this June. In 2010 a mutual friend introduced Bob to Marlou Bella, who at that time lived in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines. On June 30, 2012, Torrance First hosted Bob and Marlou’s wedding.
Marlou is also a colorful mixed plate. She has worked in the hotel industry in the Philippines, Germany, Dubai, and Oman. Her interests include movies, succulents, thrift stores, nature and animals, especially cats. She loves connecting with friends all over the world through Facebook. Marlou has siblings and family in the San Francisco bay area.
Bob’s exposure to the central coast has been through his bike tours from SF to Los Angeles, which he has done twice. They honeymooned along the coast and have since made frequent trips to their favorite getaway of Cambria.
