Worship is a few moments of our week and life, when we stop all else to specifically glorify God. This means we illuminate the nature and character of God, so that we might understand God better and we might better understand what God desires of us. Each worship service is packed with relevant teaching, inspiring music, intimate times of prayer, historical liturgy, and of course the public reading of God’s Word.
Each Sunday morning there are two worship settings for you to choose from:
8:45 AM - Contemporary Service with Praise Band
10:30 AM - Classical Worship with Organ & Choir
8:45 AM - Contemporary Service with Praise Band
10:30 AM - Classical Worship with Organ & Choir
Scriptures and teaching are the same for both services; the format, atmosphere and music are what separate the two services. Contemporary Worship is led by our Praise Band; and you will find a relaxed and informal setting, with a band comprised of guitars, bass, drums, brass and of course vocals. The band sings a variety of music -- from the latest Christian Radio hits to traditional hymns set to a new sound. The Sounds of Hope Choir, also known as the Filipino Choir, performs at the Contemporary service at 8:45 AM, every 4th Sunday of every month. The Classical Service features our organist on the largest pipe organ between Santa Barbara and the Bay Area, a 35 member Chancel Choir, and your favorite hymns from the Christian Tradition. The twist on this service is that we cover many eras in music – one week the choir might sing a piece from Handel, the next a traditional African American Spiritual, the next a brand new arrangement you have never heard before. It is also a surprise to see who the musicians are: a string quartet, a brass section, a powerful solo voice . . . you never know. In addition Classical Worship is often blessed by the voices of our Children’s Choir.
Our hope for worship here at FUMC is to have two vibrant worship services each week which give you choices – what time is best for my schedule this week or what atmosphere fits my mood this week. Our promise is that you will be welcomed by all, uplifted by the spirit of worship, challenged by the teaching and blessed by the presence of God.
